Ontario regulations for electronics changed as of January 1st, 2021 and EPRA/Recycle My Electronics programs are pleased to be a registered Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) in Ontario, continuing to provide safe and secure responsible recycling management services to our electronics industry.
The new electronics regulation in Ontario is now in effect as of January 1st, 2021 under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act.
The regulation moves Ontario to an Individual Producer Responsibility model which is overseen by the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority.
Producers can choose to cover the cost of the program through internalizing the cost in their product price or by covering the cost through a recycling fee/environmental handling fee per unit sold.

What do new regulations mean to Producers, Distributors and Retailers? For Ontario, EPRA/Recycle My Electronics works with obligated Stewards to achieve their mandated requirements under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act (RRCEA). The regulation moves Ontario to an Individual Producer Responsibility model which is overseen by the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority. Producers can choose to cover the cost of the program through internalizing the cost in their product price or by covering the cost through a recycling fee/environmental handling fee per unit sold.
What do new regulations mean to service providers? The regulation moves Ontario to a competitive model. Haulers, refurbishers and processors work with producers (or producer responsibility organizations operating on their behalf), who are required to establish and operate a collection system for electrical and electronic equipment.
The new electronics recycling regulations in Ontario are now available and came into effect on January 1st, 2021.
